Artist Statement

My artistic practice revolves around observation, reflection, and the art of noticing. These fundamental elements serve as the driving force behind each of my compositions.

What captivates me the most are the lines and textures that I encounter in my everyday surroundings, serving as the inspiration for my collages and mixed-media landscapes. Whether it's the contours of a mountain, a crack in the pavement, or the intricate texture of a rock, I find myself compelled to capture these moments through photography, sketches, or direct rubbings on paper. These visual recordings become my reference points as I create larger compositions, utilizing a combination of found papers, handmade papers, and existing artwork.

In recent artwork, I have intentionally begun incorporating materials from my immediate environment through techniques such as papermaking, printing, and alternative photography. By incorporating foraged plant materials and photographs into cyanotypes, and using found papers, note paper, and older artwork to create handmade papers, I infuse my art with a deeper connection to the world around me.

Each series I embark upon starts with a deliberately chosen limited color palette, which serves to unite the various shapes, textures, and lines within the artwork. As I carefully select and prepare my materials, I simultaneously work on multiple compositions, tearing or cutting shapes and arranging them intuitively. Through this process, I continue to add paper or make marks until a sense of balance emerges. The play of textures, colors, and edges becomes increasingly responsive, guiding the artwork's evolution.

Ultimately, the final compositions draw attention to space, prompting viewers to contemplate whether they depict real or imagined landscapes. The subtle variations in edges, textures, and layers of paper lure the viewer into each piece, inviting them to explore and discover hidden nuances.

My intention is to evoke moments of thoughtful observation within the viewers as they engage with my artwork. I strive to make my work accessible to a wide audience and actively seek opportunities to showcase it in non-traditional and community-oriented spaces. By doing so, I hope to foster a deeper connection between my art and its viewers, creating meaningful interactions that transcend traditional exhibition settings.

Art Belongs Everywhere

I work with individual collectors, curators, and industry professionals to bring art to a variety of spaces, traditional and non-traditional.
